Lesson Plans--Keep your desk clutter free!

Hi all!  Today, I am excited to be linking up with 4th Grade Frolics for
Sooooooo, I consider myself a pretty organized teacher...and if one thing drives me completely nutso during the school year, it would hands-down be if my desk is cluttered.  Now, I've actually gotten much more "normal" with this.  Back in the day (9 yrs ago), when I used to teach 5th grade, my desk was immaculate!  Pristine, I tell you!  I had it down to a science.  However, when I moved to Kindergarten, the whole immaculate desk thing seems to be a battle I lose most of the time.  But, WHAT do you do when a child hands you a picture they drew of you/for you?  Where does it go?  Well, for most days, it gets deposited on my desk until I can find a good place to hang it, etc.  Anyway, back to my "I like my desk cleared" thing...One thing I thought up is that there has to be somewhere better to put my lesson plans rather than on top of my desk--front and center.  Now, I am still old school and have my plans in a binder--I may take the plunge to have them on my laptop this year.  (big step for me).  Nonetheless though, I will prob keep a copy handy anyway--that's just me.  So, one day last year in March or so, I was organizing my pantry, and came across a recipe book holder.
 That I NEVER EVER use.
To those of you who are familiar with my cooking abilities/or lack thereof, this should come as no surprise to you.  But to stay on subject, a lightbulb went off and I thought...Hey, I can use that to hold my lesson plans.   This year it needed a little spray paint to match my beachy, bright room.

What I like about this is I can also use it for my Guided Reading binder, etc.
And there you have it.  At least that is one thing that takes up less space, but is still completely viewable.

Thanks for stopping by my blog!  Hope you all have a great week!
Becky

  1. Super cute!! I have the same one in a cupboard in my kitchen that I never use!! I also happen to have a can of aqua spray paint handy, so this just may be a quick project this afternoon. Love this idea, thanks for sharing! :)

  3. Love this idea! I just finished my first year - I keep a copy of my lesson plans printed (per administrators request), but also on my computer. I like to have the hard copy to make notes on/change right there without pulling up the file. I don't like have the binder spread open and taking up so much room on my desk. Now I need to find a cookbook holder/stand to use.

  5. Well why in the world have I never thought about doing this?? I switched to an online lesson plan book a year and a half ago and I haven't looked back. I still have a binder that I keep my standards, gradebook, etc. in, so this would be a great holder. I am going to be on the lookout for one of these. Thanks for the idea. I can't imagine going back to Kindergarten after being in 5th grade. Was the adjustment hard? I teach 5th now, but taught K for 5 years. Sometimes I miss the little ones.

    1. Thank you! The adjustment wasn't too bad bc I had student taught in Kindergarten. I also did a year of Resource teaching and got to experience all grade levels. There are definitely perks to all levels, but I love teaching the little guys!

  6. Great idea! I hate desk clutter, but it's always present during the daily grind in my classroom.
